SUMMER IN HARTFORD, 1911
Good old summertime in Hartford… the year, 1911. Maybe not many huge events… nothing earth shattering, but it was quite an exciting place to be. Middle of August that summer, F. G. Swartz was installing a bakery in the Downey Building on West Main Street. Michigan growers were harvesting a bumper crop of millions of baskets of purple grapes. Hartford area farmers were beginning to ship carloads of juicy peaches to market all over the country.
