
Steven Dale Altom, 66, formerly of Watervliet, went to be with his Lord, unexpectedly, at his home near St. Louis, Missouri on Feb. 17, 2025.
Steve was born to William and Carrie (Wise) Altom on July 7, 1958, in St. Louis, Missouri. After the passing of his mother, Carrie, the family moved to southwest Michigan, and he soon became an integral part of a larger family with 11 siblings.
Well-known for his craftsmanship, he found joy in woodworking, creating many unique pieces for family and friends. A passionate car enthusiast, he enjoyed working on and restoring vehicles in his spare time. His deep faith and love for his church were guiding lights throughout his life. Steve’s kindness, love for his family, and unwavering devotion to his church community will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Alicia (Jason) Findley; grandchildren Cameron Findley, Jordan Findley and Teagan Findley and great-grandson Colten Findley, all of Missouri; mother Lillian Altom; brothers, Richard (Linda) Winslow, Robert (Lowenda) Altom and Jeff (Stephanie) Altom and sisters, Debra (Chuck) Terry and June Altom; brother-in-law Wayne (Ruth) Neeley and sister-in-law Nancy (Floyd) Winslow along with many nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother Carrie, siblings Floyd Winslow, Ruth Neeley, Sharon Tunstill, Pauline Morris and Mary Lock, brothers-in-law Don Lock, Randy Morris and Chuck Terry. His father William also passed on Feb. 19, 2025.
