Small Town, Big Hearts: SW Michigan families make a difference for Hurricane Helene victims

HELPING HAND… Filling the needs of others, this photo shows just one of the many stops that Jake and Kyle Cartwright and Harley Town made during their trip to the devastated area of Douglas, Georgia in Coffee County. The area received extensive damage from the path of Hurricane Helene in late September.

“Small Town, Big Hearts” is a phrase that is used to describe people when they come together in hard times for one another. This initiative is more than just a saying; it’s a movement, a mission, a way of living and doing business in small-town America.

Two cousins, Jake and Kyle Cartwright, from Middleville and Watervliet respectively, along with their drag racing buddy, Harley Town from Plainwell, are perfect examples of the initiative, “Small Town, Big Hearts.” The men made a positive impact on a fellow drag racer’s hometown of Douglas, Georgia, after it was devastated by the storm surge from hurricane Helene.
