Local, state and federal officials celebrate $3B in state and federal funding to reopen Palisades Nuclear Power Plant

Leaders of Holtec International, Hyundai International, Hoosier Energy, Wolverine Power Cooperative, and the Biden-Harris Administration gathered at Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Covert for a national news conference Monday, Sept. 30, 2024 to announce and celebrate the closing of a $1.52 billion loan from the Department of Energy (DOE) and $1.3 billion in grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The loan from the DOE will be used for refurbishing and rebuilding the plant, with the grants from the USDA being used to reduce the cost of clean electricity for customers of Wolverine Cooperative and Hoosier Energy throughout Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana. The initiative has received support from both democrat and republican parties on state and federal levels.
