JOHN F. WHEELER JR.


John F. Wheeler Jr., 81, of Bainbridge Township, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023 at Corewell Health Lakeland in St. Joseph.

Services celebrating his life were held on Monday, Aug. 21, at the Davidson Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Coloma. Burial followed at North Shore Memory Gardens. Please share memories or messages at www.florin.net.

John was born Oct. 6, 1941, in Benton Harbor to John F. Wheeler Sr. and Retta (Burchett) Wheeler.

He graduated from Eau Claire High School. After two years of college, he worked almost 50 years at Modern Plastics as a tool and die maker. John retired in 2010. He married the love of his life, Nancy Nemethy, in 1961 and together they celebrated 60 years of marriage until her death in 2022. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and vacationing with his wife. After retirement, they often spent their winters in Florida. John frequently sang solos at his church. He had a sweet tooth and there wasn’t a cookie he didn’t like.

John’s family includes his sons, Matthew (Lisa) Wheeler of Coloma, Nathan (Connie) Wheeler of Titusville, FL, and John Q. (Jessica) Wheeler of Watervliet; grandchildren, Kerstin, Keegen, Marshall, Kennedy, Bruce and Derek; great-grandchildren, Jensen, Graysen, and Autumn. His family also includes his brothers, David (Farrell) Wheeler and Kenneth (Barbara) Wheeler, his sister, Judy (Jerry) Cantrell, his sisters-in-law, Ginny and Mary, and his special sister-in-law who cared for him the last few years, Jane.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, Willard Wheeler, Floyd Wheeler, and Ronnie Wheeler and his sister, Margaret Brule.
