JOAN ANNA (LANDO) DUDAY

Joan Duday, 91, passed away at her home on the evening of Aug. 28, 2024, with family at her side. Her life began on March 23, 1933 in Chicago, IL. She was the only child of Louis and Sarah Lando. She married Walter Duday on Oct. 16, 1954. They were married nearly sixty years until Walt’s passing in 2014.

Joan was employed by F&M Bank in Benton Harbor then First National Bank of Watervliet. Joan raised her family of five then began her career with Watervliet Public Schools working in the cafeteria as a cook.

Joan enjoyed many luxuries in life. The luxury of a loving family, the luxury of volunteering for the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Watervliet, the March of Dimes and Watervliet elementary schools. The luxury of family gathering in her home was probably the most enjoyed of all. She would be so happy “to have all her chicks gathered at home.” Joan loved to cook, do word searches, play dominoes, and listen to music.

Joan was a loving person who was accepting of anyone. She was cheerful and a bit mischievous. Her sense of humor would often include her saying exactly what was on her mind before thinking about what she said. She was often called on the carpet for things she said. Her reply, “Me good person.” She truly was a good person. She loved her faith, family and friends.

Joan leaves behind a loving family which includes, two sons, Steve Duday of Portland, OR, Edmond Duday of Grand Junction, MI; three daughters, Sandra Westlund of Downers Grove, IL, Anna (Tony) Leininger of Dowagiac, MI and Mary Buck of Hartford, MI. Her ultimate luxury, six grandchildren, Janine Westlund, Norman Kellogg, Devon Buck, Gina (Adam) Hill, Carla (Blake) Reading, and Collin (Reshan) Buck, and her six great-grandchildren, Naomi, Schuyler, Brooks, Blythe, Roman, and Dominic, and two nephews, Michael Duday, and Chris Duday.

In addition to her husband, Joan was preceded in passing by her parents, brother-in-law Richard Duday, nephew Gregory Duday and niece Melanie Duday.

Family and friends will gather for visitation on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024 from 3-5 p.m. at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet. A funeral mass will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Robert Flickinger at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Watervliet, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024. Memorial donations can be made the Region IV Area Agency on Aging of St. Joseph, MI.
