Amid Winterfest festivities, Hartford basketball teams split with Lawrence
In Hartford, on Friday, Jan. 31, the varsity basketball teams played host to their rivals from the east, Lawrence, in the second meeting between the schools this season and Hartford’s Winterfest.
When the two combatants last met, back in mid-December, it was a mix, as the Huskies dominated the men’s game, while the Lady Tigers cruised in the ladies contest. The results were closer, but the winners remained the same, as the Lawrence ladies started the evening with a victory, 40-31, before the Hartford men concluded the night with a win of their own, 60-36.
In the ladies contest, the Lady Tigers began to implant their footprint on the game, as they only trailed for a short period of time. After the Lady Huskies (1-11, 1-8) grabbed a one-point lead, Lawrence began utilizing their press and size to grab early control of the contest. To Hartford’s credit, despite some costly turnovers, they only trailed by five, 11-6, after one quarter of play.
