Hartford boys basketball team drops first game of season

Last week, the Hartford Husky varsity boys basketball team continued through the regular season, as the calendar brought forth a holiday tournament. The men have been on quite a run to start the season, winning their first six games, taking home victories by no less than thirty points.

EYES FORWARD… In their recent holiday tournament game against Buchanan, Hartford’s Mason Mireles (33) dribbles the ball into the offensive end, setting up the play for his teammates. Mireles had a fantastic night on offense, scoring 13 points, second highest on the team; but the Huskies lost for the first time this year, 50-43. (TCR photo by Micah Jones)

Their lone game of the week saw the team travel to Bangor on Friday, Dec. 27 to compete in the Bangor Holiday Shootout, in a contest against Buchanan. The Huskies were looking to run their season-opening winning streak to seven games, as they faced an opponent that would arguably be the best team they’ve seen in the early stages. The Bucks entered the night with a 4-3 record, riding a two-game winning streak into this post-Christmas contest. When comparing the “strength of schedule” of the two squads, the edge favored Buchanan; however, this would be a tight one for all thirty-two minutes with Hartford taking a loss, 50-43.
