Gloria Rayne Ryan, 71, of Hartford passed away in the presence of her family on Friday January 31, 2025 after battling dementia.

Gloria was born Aug. 22, 1953 in Niles to Raymond and Eva Marie Brown. She attended Niles Public Schools.

Gloria met Larry at his aunt’s farm and they were married on Aug. 17, 1970. They were married for 55 years. They were partners in crime and loved going for car rides and visiting their children and grandchildren. Gloria and Larry raised three sons; Larry Jr., James and Jon. Anyone who knew Gloria knew that those boys were the loves of her life. Once the grandchildren and great-grandchildren started arriving she felt like her life was complete. It was rare for her not to have a grandchild with her at all times on the weekends.

Gloria worked at Crystal Flash for many years and even after she stopped working there she would still go and visit her coworkers. Gloria was well known and will be remembered by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing her. Gloria enjoyed socializing and cooking delicious food for her friends and family. Anytime you walked in her house you knew you were leaving with a full belly.

Gloria loved shopping at garage sales and she could never turn down a good bargain. She had a soft spot for animals and if one wandered into her yard they had a “furever” home. She loved listening to music and the radio was on all the time. Most of all, Gloria loved spending quality time with her family. Gloria was loving, caring, feisty, hilarious, giving and independent. She was not one to be told “No”, just ask Larry. Gloria knew how to put a smile on everyone’s face and she will be truly missed.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Larry Ryan Sr.; her siblings, Barbara Flugel and Nancy (Sam) Meyers; her sons, Larry Ryan Jr. of Watervliet, James (Kim) Ryan and Jon (Sonya) Ryan of Hartford; her grandchildren Christopher, Joshua, Matthew, Cody, Gavin, Jessica, Mia, Cayden, Christopher and Spencer; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews including one special nephew, David Brown.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Raymond Brown Sr. and Eva Marie Brown; her brother Raymond Brown Jr. and daughter-in-law Rebecca Ryan.

There will be a Celebration of Life at Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. with service immediately following. Those wishing to leave condolences for the family may do so at http://www.calvin-leonardfh.com.
