Watervliet boys, girls basketball teams down Coloma
On Friday, Feb. 14, fans representing the neighboring communities of Watervliet and Coloma, made their way into Panther gymnasium for the newest installment of the rivalry series on the basketball court, as the two schools met for the second time this year. When the final horns sounded, it was an outstanding night if you were wearing maroon and white, or otherwise cheering for Watervliet.
The Lady Panthers opened the night with a dominant victory over the Lady Comets, 44-26, before the Panther men came from down twenty points in the first half to exact their piece of revenge, stealing victory from the Comets, 62-58.
In the ladies contest, Watervliet (7-12, 3-6) came out strong on defense, as Coloma (3-14, 1-8) was held scoreless, having not made a field goal, nor attempted a free-throw, in the opening eight minutes. Meanwhile, the Lady Panthers were able to create some offensive magic, making three baskets from the field, and going 3-for-4 from the charity stripe to grab the lead after one, 10-0.
