Coloma downs Watervliet, secures District title in unusual circumstances
Less than a month ago, Coloma and Watervliet met in a wrestling dual with only conference and regular season record implications on the line. With these two squads in the same team district, along with Hartford, and you have “Red Arrow Highway” bragging rights on the line.
On Wednesday, Feb. 5, after it appeared that the Huskies got the better of the Comets, it was determined that Hartford had used a wrestler that they shouldn’t have, leading to a forfeit being declared and Coloma moved on to the district finals. In the district final, the Comets defeated Watervliet, 54-24, advancing to this week’s team regionals.
![SECURING POINTS… During team districts, Coloma’s Maverick Kraemer looks for guidance from his coaches, while keeping Hartford’s Daniel White on his belly during the 144-pound bout. Kraemer secured the victory by major decision, 16-6. But after the Huskies forfeited the overall match, it’s like this match never occurred. ![DISTRICT TITLE ON THE LINE… During team districts held at Watervliet, Coloma’s Zacorious Tanner works the top position against Watervliet’s Braizen Robart, during the 175-pound match. Just prior to the end of the first period, Tanner would secure the fall in 1:58, adding six points to the team score and helping the Comets earn the hardware with a 54-24 win.
