Coloma boys, Watervliet girls secure victories in basketball rivalry games

Despite the winter weather that arrived late last week, two long-standing rivals were able to gather on the basketball court on Friday, Jan. 10, as Coloma and Watervliet had the first of two scheduled meetings this year. Both games on this night were intense, coming down to the wire.

When the final horns sounded, the two schools managed to split the games. The Lady Panthers opened the evening with a victory over the Lady Comets, 40-37, while the Comets stole the show in the night session, winning their game over the Panthers, 79-69.

In the ladies contest, Coloma (1-8, 0-4) opened the game by scoring the first four points, before Watervliet (2-6, 1-3) responded with the next seven points, opening up a three-point lead. The two teams would trade baskets from that point forward, with the Lady Panthers leading after the first quarter, 10-9.
