Berrien County Health Department warns community of underage vaping risks, launches educational campaign to raise awareness

The Berrien County Health Department’s Substance Use Disorder Prevention Team is warning the community of the risks associated with underage vaping and has launched an educational campaign to raise awareness.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2023, nearly half of U.S. youth who have tried a vape reported continued use. In 2023, vapes were the most used tobacco product among middle and high school students in the U.S.

Electronic vapor devices heat a liquid and produce an aerosol or mix of small particles in the air. Many are composed of a battery, a heating element and a place to hold liquid. They come in a variety of sizes and may be shaped like everyday items, such as pens or highlighters.
