ARTHUR R. SCHERER

 Arthur R. Scherer, 88, of Watervliet, passed away on Oct. 7, 2024.

 Art was born on Sept. 15, 1936, to Raymond & Helen (Kent) Scherer in Benton Harbor. He was raised on his family farm where he lived his whole life. He would eventually become the sole owner of Art Scherer Farms as a proud fruit farmer. He graduated from Watervliet High School with the Class of 1954. After high school, Art was drafted into the United States Army where he proudly served his country for two years before he was honorably discharged. On Nov. 11, 1961, Art married Barbara Kintup in Benton Harbor.

 Art was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Watervliet where he served as a Board member. He was also a member of Farm Bureau, Life-Member of the Michigan State Horticultural Society and the Bainbridge Township Board of Review. His passions in life were for his family, farm, church and community and he will be missed by many.

 He leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory. This includes daughters Lynn (Mike) Wiley of Westfield Indiana, Kristin (Dave) Hemink of Excelsior Minnesota and granddaughters

Genevieve Bates of Colorado Springs Colorado, Alexandra Bates of Westfield Indiana, Laine Hemink of Bloomington Indiana and Kolby Hemink of Lawrence Kansas.

 A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at 12 p.m., at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 1650 Bainbridge Center Rd., Watervliet officiated by Pastor Michael Mulberry. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 1650 Bainbridge Center Rd., Watervliet, MI 49098.
