Alva I. Doan, 97, of Benton Township, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2023 at his home.
Celebration of Life Service was held on Dec. 14 at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Township with Rev. Steve and Karen Dye officiating. Alva was born on Aug. 20, 1926 in Braggadocio, MO to Roland and Eutha Doan. He married his wife, Janice, on Aug. 21, 1944 and together they celebrated 67 years of marriage until her death in 2012. Alva served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was employed as a machine operator at Auto-Specialties until his retirement in 1981 after 32 years.
Alva enjoyed tinkering around with most anything mechanical. He loved going to Burger King in the mornings and was one of the southern boys who worked from sunrise to sunset. In his younger years Alva enjoyed going deer hunting and traveling out west with his wife. When Janice became sick, he took care of his wife and kept her at home. In addition to his wife, Alva loved his grandkids and their babies.
Alva’s family includes his children, Darryl (Sandy) Doan of Lincoln Township and Gary (Debra) Doan of Edgewater, FL; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his great-great and great-great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Mae Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; his daughter, Barbara in 2008 and his son, Dennis in 2022; his parents and brothers and sisters.
